SS-603531-19/ESN will provide for the purchase of a “brand name” only leather fire helmets for Fire Department personnel with ten (10) years of service.  Phenix TL-2 is a traditional style leather helmet that identifies those that are seasoned or experienced personnel when on the fire ground and other emergency scenes.  This will allow for a quick identification of experienced personnel that can be assigned tasks that newer personnel may not have the experience to complete safely.  The Fire Department is requesting a restricted specification instead of full and open competitive specifications, therefore requiring Board approval.  If approved, the Purchasing and Contracts Division will procure “brand name” only unless otherwise specified by the Board.

Authorization for procurement of the helmets will be in the form of written Purchase Orders issued and executed by the County.  The Fire Department justification for the purchase is included in the backup documents.  The estimated usage for this procurement is anticipated to be between $12,000.00 and $18,000.00 per year.
