Background:

The Bureau of Justice Assistance is accepting applications for Fiscal Year 2020 for the Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Abuse Site-based Program. The purpose of this grant program is to develop, implement or expand comprehensive programs in response to illicit opioids, stimulants or other substances of abuse by providing resources to support local efforts to reduce violent crime and drug abuse and to enhance public safety while supporting victims.

 

The Sheriff’s Office is requesting grant funding to expand the current Opioid Response Program by adding three additional investigators to the Seminole Collaborative Opioid Response Efforts (SCORE) Team to allow for additional responses to overdose victims to transition them through detoxification, stabilization and treatment/rehabilitation. This grant does not have a match requirement.

Staff Recommendation:

Board approval to submit a grant application to the US Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) for the Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Abuse Site-based Program (COSSAP) requesting up to $900,000 over three years and authorize the Sheriff or his designee to execute any documents associated with the grant application.
