In June 2021, Staff was notified that Seminole County's Reinvestment Grant application was awarded. The Criminal Justice, Mental Health, and Substance Abuse Reinvestment Grant Program (Reinvestment Grant) provides funding to plan, implement, or expand initiatives that increase public safety, avert increased spending on criminal and juvenile justice systems, decrease admissions
to the state forensic hospital, and improve the accessibility and effectiveness of treatment services for adults and juveniles who have a mental illness, a substance use disorder, or a combination thereof, and who are in, or at risk of entering, the criminal or juvenile justice systems.
This is the County's third Reinvestment Grant from the State of Florida Department of Children and Families. The County will work with Aspire Health Partners to provide mental health and substance abuse services for clients that don't have insurance to cover treatment services. The grant will also provide funding to the Sheriff office to continue with the juvenile prevention program for at-risk youth.
The grant award amount is $1,200,000 over a three year period and the budget was including in the FY21/22 budget approval process. There is a Match requirement for this grant that must equal the total amount of the award. Aspire Health Partners, Sheriff office and County existing personnel budget will meet the in-kind Match requirement for the grant.
